I found an old album of hers tucked in the back of a dust bin at the used record shop and when I saw that Kim Fowley produced it, I shelled out a couple of bucks to check it out. He has her singing Lennon & McCartney's "One After 909" and some other overproduced (30 players +) weird-sounding stuff (Lots of noise on this record!) Does anyone know if Fowley produced any other "mainstream" acts in the late 70's/early 80's? I'm thinking the collaboration between Reddy and Fowley must've been a business "deal" between Fowley and Reddy's slimy husband at the time, Jeff Wald. Definitely different-sounding.

my dear Steverino
that album you have is the second album for dear Helen that Fowley produced. his first was Ear Candy which had a few hits, namely 'You're My World' and 'the Happy Girls'. and it was a doozy!
fowley and Earle Mankey 'assist' helen in some of the songwriting - best example is this unbelievably odd song called 'Baby I'm a Star'. fowley once said it was her 'punk song, in reverse.' she actually says 'shit' on this album: '...i don't take no shit from nobody/cuz i'm a star/i got me a fancy house/and a lotta shoes man/and a Mercedes Benz/cuz i'm a Star...got two kids and a man i love/a clenched fist/and a velvet glove..'!!!
she also covers Stevie Wonder's 'If this is Magic'. this is a definite must-have album Steverino! good luck!
didn't he also produce a band called Face Dancer from Boston? he does have a website address which details all his production 'duties' but i can't recall it at this particular.
yours

Thanks, SweetieGord, I think I will look for EAR CANDY. Fowley threw everything but the kitchen sink into the 2nd album w/Reddy! "One After 909" actually rocks pretty hard for Helen Reddy. What a pair!I still believe someone was doing heavy drugs at the time! I have an old LP somehwere in my collection by a rock singer named SHANDI that was produced by Kim Fowley, too, I believe...Shandi had hair the color of an eggplant and posed on the cover of the album holding some kind of huge plastic tube. I think it came out in 1980. Her real name was Shandi Sinnamon. She had a voice somewhat reminiscent of Benatar's, as I recall. P.S. (I think the Shandi album is probably next to the Jimmy T. album in my collection....gotta drag those two out again and 'reminisce').

The lastest Ugly Things mag has a great interview, but it only goes to up to the seventies. His best work in my opinion. Take care.

Fowley looks like a vampire in many of the images on his site.
I wonder......
